Journey into the Spirits: Vodou Series at Astro Voodoo

Vodou is the soul of Haiti—a vibrant Creole tradition where music, art, and dance bridge the gap between the physical and the spiritual. Far from the dark myths often portrayed, it is a graceful and joyous celebration that weaves together ancestral wisdom, historical resilience, and sacred syncretism.

Workshop One: Foundations & The Spirits of the Head

In our opening session, we explore the core philosophy that “all is Spirit.” Drawing from the wisdom of Gran Papa Luc Prince, who taught that nothing exists outside of Vodou, we will begin our journey into this all-encompassing faith.

What we will cover:

  • History & Origins: Trace the journey of the faith from West Africa to Haiti and into the modern world as a powerful tool for spiritual anchoring.

  • The Three Nations: An introduction to the major Lwa nations—the cool Rada, the fiery Petro, and the ancestral Gede.

  • The Pantheon: Get to know the primary Lwa through song and dance, including Papa Legba (the Gatekeeper), Damballah and Ayida Wedo (the Serpents of Creation), Ezili (Love and Abundance), Ogoun (War and Iron), and the Gede (Death and Healing).

Hands-On Practice:

  • Sacred Crafting: Learn the proper methods for creating offering vessels and setting up a consecrated altar.

  • The Mèt Tèt Reading: Every participant will receive a reading to identify their Mèt Tèt—the Spirit who “rules the head.” Understanding this connection is vital for achieving personal harmony.

  • Boutèy Lwa: Create a specialized “point” (pwen) in the form of a bottle dedicated to your Mèt Tèt to serve as a focal point for your home practice.

The Evening Ceremony:

We will conclude with an Aksyon de Gras, a service of thanks dedicated to Papa Legba, the patron of our society.
